As sustainability challenges such as climate change represent ever-present dangers to all of us, we must find and implement fruitful pathways towards a more sustainable society. The EU-funded LESTRA project will study how sustainability transitions (STs) can be facilitated and accelerated through better practices of learning-by-doing and doing-by-learning. The project will identify the key necessities for learning processes to contribute to STs, introduce novel methodologies for studying connections between learning and the transformation of habits and customs, and lastly, create a roadmap for future studies into learning in/for STs in diverse contexts and settings.
LESTRA main objectives:
• to develop a new analytical and conceptual framework for investigating the connections between learning processes, the transformation of habits and customs, and (potential) STs;
• to identify the key conditions for learning to contribute to STs;
• to develop a roadmap for future research in diverse settings and contexts.
The LESTRA project investigates (the facilitation of) learning and change processes in the context of sustainability transitions. We conduct empirical research on the mobility transition in a town, the food transition in a city, and the energy transition in Europe.
