The EU-funded GIANT LEAPS project seeks to accelerate this dietary shift, which is in line with the farm-to-fork strategy and contributes to the EU Green Deal target that aims to improve the well-being and health of citizens, by providing strategic innovations, methodologies, and open-access datasets. The work will support policymaking towards the dietary shift, value chain actors in their decision-making, and the public for their healthier and more sustainable dietary choices.
The GIANT LEAPS project is a Horizon Europe Research and Innovation action that aims to fill essential knowledge gaps in relation to alternative proteins and by generating datasets, methodologies and innovations empower and enable policymakers, businesses and consumers to shift towards healthy sustainable diets.
The outputs of the project are:
• an open cloud-based data platform with open datasets on alternative (and traditional) proteins
• food prototypes based on alternative proteins
• new and improved research methodologies
• alternative protein containing future diets for 4 regions in Europe that are optimized for health and climate/environmental outcomes based on a modeling approach
• policy briefs on alternative protein related topics.
